JALT Hokkaido is pleased to announce two upcoming events in October. The 2008 JALT Hokkaido Language Teaching Conference will be held on Sunday, October 19, at Hokusei Gakuen University, and the 2008 CALL Workshop will be held on Saturday, October 18 at Sapporo Gakuin University.
This year's language teaching conference theme is "Hokkaido Nabe - Helping Students to Help Themselves." It will feature a keynote presentation by Dr. Robert Courchene from the University of Ottawa, speaking on "Self-Access Learning and the Learner," and Cynthia Keith, vice president of JALT National, presenting on teaching children.
Both events will offer presentations by teachers teaching pre-school, elementary, junior high school and high school, university, tertiary education, eikaiwa, older learners and test classes. Most presentation blocks are 45 minutes but some workshops may be longer.
A couple of important notices:
- On the conference day (Sunday), parking space will be very limited. We therefore recommend that attendees come to Hokusei Gakuen University using public transportation.
- Regrettably, the Hokusei Gakuen University cafeteria will be closed on Sunday. Attendees should either bring a lunch or step out to one of several shops near Oyachi subway station. We apologize for the inconvenience.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Michael Mielke, the 2008 JALT Hokkaido Conference Program Chair, at michaelmielke(AT)gmail.com.
We look forward to seeing you at the conference, and don't forget to tell a friend!
